Mildred’s Thrift Shop
Mildred’s Thrift Shop is in its 36th year of service as a mission project of Cleveland United Methodist Church. It is open every Tues & the first Sat. of each month from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon.
A volunteer staff works approximately 60 hours each week to prepare for three short hours of selling time. Major work days are Monday & Thursdays, usually mornings, according to convenience of volunteers. Contents of donation bags are sorted, folded, hung or set out for display. Lack of space prevents acceptance of furniture & large appliances.
During 2009 more than $20,500 was distributed to:
White County Food Pantry
Caring & Sharing
Caring Hands Free Clinic
White County High School Scholarships
Summer Campership for youth & children in the church,
Habitat for Humanity
The White County Senior Center
DFCS White Christmas.
A voucher program is also available through the church office for families in crisis and in need of emergency help.
The concept of community helping community is more important than ever in these difficult economic times. Gifts of clean, gently-used clothing & household items make all this possible. There is always a need for volunteer workers and sales persons. Contact Alice Bagwell, Coordinator at 706,865-1389 or the church office at 706-865-2228 for more information or volunteer application.
